100th post - how the heck did that happen

Yes readers, I've reached 100 posts. I've no idea how! I also now have 43 followers - but I think that may be due to the fact that I may comment more than I blog.

Anyway I wanted to celebrate this and I've really thought hard about how to do it and .....I've no idea how!!

So I thought I'd leave it up to you... 100 posts - 100 questions.. leave me a question, no matter how random on the comment post and I will try and answer them on my 101 blog post. It'll give you all a way of getting to know me better - if you really want to of course...be warned I am completely insane!!!

While I'm here I would like to thank the 43 people who now follow me - I'm so in shock everyday when I come online and see there's a new one - someone else out there who thinks I'm worthy enough to be followed. Thank you all.

And also this week I'd like to pass on a big thank you to Josie@Sleep is for the Weak for using one of my posts as the inspiration for this week's Writing Workshop. I honestly am chuffed to bits!!

Anyway I will go now and await your questions...(bites finger nails!!)

Happy St Dwynwen's day

No I'm not doing this to annoy the Scots, happy Burn's day and all!!

Anyway today is St Dwynwen day who is the Welsh patron saint of lovers- so a Welsh St Valentine.

According to the legend Dwynwen who lived during the 5th century ( and was known to be the prettiest of Brychan Brycheiniog's 24 daughters!!) fell in love with Maelon Dafodrill, and they wanted to marry, but her father refused consent as he had arranged for Dwynwen to wed another.
In his anger about the rejection, Maelon raped and left Dwynwen.(- not a nice man then!!)

Dwynwen's sadness impels her to console herself in the woods nearby. There she prays to God to rid her of her feelings for Maelon. Answering her prayers, an angel comes to Dwynwen in a dream, and gives her a potion to help her forget Maelon, and turn him into ice.

God then grants Dwynwen three wishes. The first was to have Maelon thawed, the second was that God would look kindly on the hopes and dreams of true lovers, and her final request was that she was never to marry. Her wishes became true, and as thanks she devoted the remainder of her life to God.
Dwynwen then became a nun and she settled on Llanddwyn Island, which rests off the west coast of Anglesey. She died of natural causes around 460AD.

The island to this day is a pilgrimage site for lovers and on it lies a well which it is thought if its water boils when you look upon it then you will be lucky in love!

So after that brief lesson, I wish you all "Diwrnod Santes Dwynwen Hapus". May you be filled with love today!

Trains, Trains and Thomas too - review

Well its been a weekend of Thomas here. We have been lucky enough to review the new series which starts this Monday at 8.25 on Milkshake, Channel 5.

This year is Thomas's 65th Anniversary year and they have made him bigger and better by the use of  full CGI animation which brings the engines and the island of Sodor to life.

Well as I have three train fans in this house (yes Neb too!!) we all sat down to watch these episodes with eagerness and a bag of popcorn!
Car couldn't restrain herself and was shouting Tank, Tank all through the 3 preview episodes.
Bel who prior to watching it had deemed herself to watch Thomas (nearly 6!!) sat quietly enthralled as the characters came to life in front of her.
Even Neb managed to stay quiet and not tell us all what engine types they all were (oh yes he is that sad but not a spotter no!!)

Yes we loved it ! We all loved it and we are now looking forward to seeing the rest of the series.
So if you or your family is a Thomas fan then set your tv to Milkshake at 8.25 on 5 or like us press record and welcome the new episodes of Thomas to your house.

Are Welsh people posh?

Recently I have had a trouble with posting as I seem to be suffering from lack of imagination or a writer's block or a cold.. I don't really know!!

Anyway I have been for a while following A Mother's Ramblings and her recent post with the banana got me into a comment debate with her which then led to her threatening to come here and sort me out so here's my post!

So the question is are Welsh people posh? According to Pippa we are but obviously she has been to the wrong places of Wales on holidays. This is like me saying that all English people are posh and are born with plums in their mouths!! If you have the plum then I am sorry!!

And why can you answer the question I hear you ask .... go on ask it!!
See, I'm  Welsh me born and bred and I'm sure if you accidentally cut my arm off the middle would say  made in wales! (or in Welsh Cymraes - Welsh woman!)

So as always on a start of any debate (or question from Bel) I contacted the great god Google with the question Are Welsh people posh?

And (as can be seen above)  I am not the first person to ask this question... there is even a facebook page set up called:

So from this there are Posh Welsh people its just that I may miss them due to them sounding English!

Another link shows that in history English was considered Posh and the Welsh language was not.. so does that mean only the people from Wales who speak Welsh are not posh like me and the others posh! I'm in the bit closes to the sea!

Chris Corcoran - Welsh comedian/ Actor and CBeebies hottie from Doodle Do
once said that in Welsh the word posh - didn't mean the same as in English. " The basic rule of thumb in Wales is that if it’s not broken or covered in fluff, it’s ‘posh’. I remember buying my auntie a tea towel for Christmas once and she opened it up and said, ‘Ooh there’s posh’ and I thought, ‘If a tea towel is posh, what have you been using to wipe the dishes all these years?". He looks nicer here mind

So I think from all my research (during my lunch hour in work- well it is raining) that maybe some are and some aren't but I can tell you now that top of my not posh list would be Nessa Jenkins aka Ruth Jones (see below).

Bryn and Nessa - Gavin & Stacey

I hope that explained it all !!!!- I'm off to do some work now - and Pippa -its 3 cream crackers with a knife and fork (world record is 3.07 mins!)

Why can't men multitask??

Now as you can see in my previous post I'm at home today.

So as Neb left for funeral, I managed to write one blog post, feed Car apple and not junk.

Since then I have given and cleaned up Car for lunch, prepared and am cooking tonight's supper - chicken cacciatore if you must know! danced around kitchen with Car and am currently (as well as typing this) working out what to get from supermarket for supper later this week.

So tell me why is when I am in work all day Neb can't manage it....

What we did this weekend....

I'm sorry if I've been quiet this weekend but I have been severely bunged up and had bad earache so couldn't quite hack typing. Anyway after catching up with the blogs on Friday I borrowed some ideas.

I've recently started following some new blogs, thanks mostly to reading other people's blog rolls and to Judith's Room which as you may or may not know is the brain child of Josie over at Sleep is for the Weak and which is a community for all us ladies out there who write.

Anyway in work on Friday I started reading The Diary of a Frugal Family which is all about one family surviving the credit crunch. And as you may or may not know I love to cook things with the girls so after one read of her recipe for tortillas I decided that we would have them for supper on Saturday. (BTW Supper= dinner!, just in case I confuse you...)
So after a rainy Saturday afternoon - we spent most of it playing Megabloks and watching Racing Stripes that I had Sky+ over Christmas I got everyone in the kitchen and with Bel and Car's help made the tortilla dough. Car got bored at the mixing stage and Neb had disappeared so me and Bel spent 5 minutes kneading. We then used up the leftover turkey that I had defrosted and made cajun styley Turkey mix (fry onion and peppers, add turkey, add ground cumin, ground coriander, paprika and smoked chilli pepper and mix. I can't give you weights because I kinda chucked them in) for inside the tortillas for us grown ups and cut up cheese, ham, turkey (plain), tomatoes and lettuce for herself and Car.
Neb then decided that he would join us and rolled out the mix into circles which Car then thought it was funny to poke holes into but after sitting down and eating everyone eat them .... mmmm they were very yummy and got the thumbs up from Bel who can sometimes be fussy!

Yesterday I decided that we would all go for a walk and after asking Bel if she'd prfer trees or seaside went out in the car to the spot. Now I am very lucky were I live that there are so many places to go to inland and on the seaside. So we arrived at the sand dunes and the girls had so much fun charging on the boardwalk and then running up and down the beach that for Car it got too exciting and I think we tired her out as we  had to walk back to the car carrying her.

Now a while ago I was tagged by Make do Mum for the favourite photo meme that I know was started by  Tara over at Sticky Fingers  and I know it has been doing the rounds so here finally is mine!

Now I wanted to find a picture of Neb and the girls that didn't give too much a clue of who they are and yesterday while out we took this on the spur of the moment! In it you can see Neb laughing hard - but it was his idea to climb onto the log not mine!! Bel thought it was great and joined in with her oar and Car then had to climb aboard!!! I think its going to be one of my new favourite ones and can't wait to get paid so I can print it out and put it up somewhere...

Now as with all meme's I need to pass this on so I'm going to pass this to the ladies that I follow and who follow me in the US (yes I know I said ladies I'm being polite!!) so here's the picture perfect meme to :

Gigi as I know you've been away and have many pics you could share & to
Nicola aslong as it isn't of your grannie's boobs!
and Lee@TheWayISeeIt but no more dead things please

Hope you have fun with this one....

Anyways I have a day off today as dear Neb has had to go to a funeral of a dear friends' father so Car is currently pretending to sleep and later I will make lunch for her, get the girls supper on and go to collect Bel from school which is apparently something she is soooo looking forward to mummy!!!

Bye for now

What's Right again?

This is a blogpost in response to the Writing Workshop at Sleep is for the Weak #1

In Welsh the words for left and right is Dde and Chwith but not necessarily in that order. I can never remember which hand is which!!

And when I say that I mean I've never known it.

My dad would say something like - "Draw fan na ar y Chwith " which means "Over there on the Left" or is that "Over there on the Right", I don't know.
Even when Neb asks me is that the road to the left or the right when I'm reading the map (which is upside down so I can read it  and then know we are going the right way!) and I go this hand, which I know is very useful!

When Bel first started school they gave her a hint which she shared with me which is " If you make a L with your hand then the one where the L faces the right way then that is your Left hand". I do tend to use this quite often but please don't ask me what they are in Welsh!

Ice stops school

I was really happy to hear this morning whilst watching the news that most schools in the UK were re-opening after the cold snap we've had.

You can imagine my surprise and the swear words said under my breath (honest) when I then heard on the local radio station that Bel's school was closed. Neb, who was up(!) shouted upstairs at Bel to change out of her school uniform and into something warmer and she was nearly in tears when she came downstairs.

I later learnt thanks to FB that school is closed due to ice at top of hill. Now I know they have to be careful with small children but its getting silly now - Bel (and Neb) is going stir crazy. I've asked for them to tidy house for mummy today but heaven knows if this happens.

Confusion over man matters!

Hi all

You'll be glad to hear that currently we have heating although after learning it was due to a frozen pipe I may need to interrupt this blog to bang the pipes again!

Now whilst waiting for the plumber to arrive (yesterday lunchtime) I snoozed on the sofa as I a) was cold and b) had the starts of a cold! I woke up and asked Bel to check with Neb to see if the man had appeared. This confused Car because she thought it was THIS MAN ( Father Christmas)  and got very excited that she launched herself on Neb shouting presents open open!.
We all then had to explain to her that no it was not that man but the man who comes to fix things. She I think understood it but looked at me in a very disdainful way!

Anyways we are all warm now even if my cold has turned into a cold. We all have one and Car's face is constantly snotty!

Love from a snotty BNM

Yesterday was princess day

It was Car's birthday yesterday. My little girl turned 2.

Even though she was upset about the Christmas tree coming down she got very excited yesterday morning when I sang Happy Birthday to her. She replied with a Yeah Mummy and then clambered over for a cuddle.

When I was getting dressed she ran over and bought  me a top and leggings that Neb's Aunt J has bought over from America. She rammed them at me and yelled Princess Mummy, Princess.

She then spent most of the day singing Happy Birday to herself and bouncing everywhere!

So yesterday she was a Princess with lots of new toys to leave all over floor play with.
We had got her a pack of MegaBlocks (which weren't fun to carry home over icy roads let me tell you!) which were the monster ones and as she now loves watching Ooglies with Bel this is her with them yesterday.

Blog block,awards and memes!

AAGH. I've started writing this blog so many times since coming back from the in-laws on Sunday.

I seem to be suffering from a mind numbing blankness of thoughts. This may have something to do with the fact that when I got into work yesterday I got sent home again due to the boilers not working. I'm in today but if my fingers get any colder they will fall off.  The only warm place in the office is on top of the radiator which is going to fall off the wall when we all sit on it!

I'm trying to stay positive about this year and how about everything will get better but I have a feeling that things may get lower here before they get better. I tried to motivate Neb on Sunday after returning from our trip to his mother. I went on every website for jobs in the area and tried to point out suitable ones for him but as there is nothing on there that made him go yeah I think things will be slow. I'm worried that he's now getting very depressed and things are going to get worse for us before they get better....

I'd like to thank Gigi for declaring her undying love for me (I wonder if your husband knows) and whilst doing so bestowing on me this lovely award

Now I don't know if there are any rules with this award, whether you nosy people need to know anything about me but there seems to be none so I would like to let you know that I would love you all to have it because I'm too cold to pick a few of you... (in work trying to type now whilst drinking coffee and wearing my coat!).
Very Bored Housewife  has also tagged me to come up with my 5 highlights of 2009. Now I've been racking my brain about this and I can only think of a few things
  • The lovely trip we had down to see Neb's famous (he was in the Milky Bar Kid adverts) Uncle and his g/f was fantastic and definately a highlight for me and the girls. We loved it there and will be looking forward to going down to see them near London again.
  • Being able to go out and have dinner with the two lovely girlies (W+W). May these continue into the new year so that my sanity can be fixed
  • Having a fantabulous god mother who I love to bits and who always knows how to make me smile when the chips are down.

Again if you would like to carry this on please do, the people who do are still umming here now and finally they have decided to let us go home... but hang on I've only got 10 mins left.AAAAAAAAAAGH

Bye for now
