Two more sleeps

Yeah, there are two more sleeps to go before we venture on our camping holiday. I say venture because it may completely drive me round the bend especially if the girls decide not to listen to me and I'm worried that we will get thrown off the site if they start shouting and screeching!!!

And are we ready I hear you ask?

Well, Neb has made the list, and it seems we are taking everything including the kitchen sink and even though we have an estate car it may be filled to the brim. I've told him that if he packs everything neatly and tidies the boot out first that it will all go in but he is fartassing around (yes that is a new word!) with "oh but this is bulky" and "the tent is huge". I've reminded him that however we pack we will need to put the tent on top because its the first thing we will need to put up!

As you can see, I'm currently doing nothing (!) for the journey. The washing machine is on so I'm just sitting here watchng Car dance the muffin. You know off 3rd and Bird. I have though been a bit manic and checked the weather every few hours for the area we're going. Obviously, the sun dance that my friend Super Little Men over at Mad Life is doing is working so keep it up please hun...

So, the things left to do before we go is tidy up so that our neighbours who are feeding the cats don't think we are complete pigs. Take clothes to launderette to dry tomorrow (while clothes at launderette we will be having Sunday lunch in local pub!), pack clothes and car. Sit down feet up tomorrow night and catch up with Sky + before we go away and fill it up again!! Go to bed reasonably early and leave between 10-11 to get there in enough time.

I'm getting very excited now... weeee....

BNM x

Ps the new blog you need to visit while I'm away is Mad Life. Not only did Super Little Men start to blog because of me (blushing here!) but she has a fantastic life with her three little boys (one of which she is married to). If you have any advice on how she can a) sell her home quickly so she can b) move back UP north and c) start new job then I'm sure she would appreciate it.

No, No, No, no...

there's no limit...

No, I'm not singing that cheesy techno song from the 80's by them feckin odd loony Belgians 2unlimited * (some Belgians are lovely though, go check out Mwa over at Lost in Translation and see if the baby has arrived yet).

Car has decided that to push me over the hill, round the bend (further) and basically annoy the crap out of me this week by using that loveliest of words No. GRRR.
I haven't been feeling very well since the other day and only today am I feeling like myself. The PMT/PMS crappy ass (yes literally) feelings have now gone and I may even venture to have a drinkie poo in a bit.
Anyway, whatever you ask Car at the moment you get one answer most of the time. For example:

Me: Do you want toast
Car: No
Me: Cereal then
Car: No
Me: Toast and peanut butter
Car: no, No, no, mummy
Me: Do you want any breakfast??
Car: No!!
Me: OK, then, No breakfast, No tv
Car: Me want my telly
Me: You can have tv, if you have some breakfast
Car: No
At this point I am close to that annoyance that they give you but you also just want to laugh out loud!!
Me: OK, then Mami's going to count now and if you don't come and have breakfast then you're not having any tv....
(before I even get to one, she's normally sat by the table going 'where's breakfast mummy'!!)
AAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHH

*Just in case you have no idea who I'm on about check this song out - but remember it is bad and don't blame me:

PS As I will be away next week and as the survey said that you would be back (remember I know where some of you live!!) I'm hoping to link up to some of my favourite blogs in the next couple of post - so please try and go to see Mwa up there because she will I know try and post even with new baby on its way/here!

Days like these

Days like the one I've had today - day 2 of my 2 week break and the kids and Neb are already driving me up the wall.
Yesterday was a better day, even though it rained.

Today it has been sunny, even though I have been nothing like it - I feel hot, sick and have a crampy stomach all at the same time. I know that my train is due in the station (you ladies know what I mean , am not spelling that out) but why do I feel so tired, so depressed. I mean I've just sat and watched Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and just cried. Tears running down my face, sobbing my heart away. The house is empty as Neb has taken the car to be MOTed and the girls have gone with him so that I can have some me time.
I know that I have been snapping at them all, Car seems to be a cheeky monster who will listen to anyone (and I mean anyone, when the boy in the shoe shop told her off she listened!!). Bel has also been winding me up and when I ask her not to, once, twice then third time shout, Neb just gives me that look of "She's not being that naughty give her some slack". I just feel like screaming!!!
If anyone has got any happy pills - please leave em at my door. Car is off to nursery for a couple of hours tomorrow and then I will need to get things done and tidy up!!! So here's hoping for a better day!

Is there something in the air??

Right ho - there is obviously something in the air round here because our luck has got better.

Not only have we had that large rebate but we've also won a family ticket to go to a theme park. Now this particular theme park is not only one of the ones we wanted to go too on holiday but was also one of the recommended places to visit. I had visited its website recently and saw that you could follow it on Facebook.
So last week when the Facebook page said there was a competition to win a ticket - I jumped at emailing them but thinking there would be loads, thought not much of it.

But, hurrah, huzzah, yeehah and all such words we've won. So, whilst camping we will be off to:

Gulliver's World.

Thank you Gully xxx

PS This is not a sponsored post I just wanted to say thank you to the cute little mouse.

Yeeehahh

Hi all

Just a brief post -  to say that the windfall from the other day is ours all ours - seems that Working Tax people had been under paying us and we got a huge (well for us anyway) back payment as well as the monthly payment going up four fold!!!

We're gonna have a fun holiday peeps!!

Summer Holiday

Its getting so close to that time now - Friday will be my last day in work and then I'm off for two week.

For the first week, we will probaly pootle around close to home - the car is having its MOT on Monday so will not be going away much before then. Car is in nursery for mornings of the first week which means hopefully I can get some serious tidying done with Bel's help - or spend some quality time with Bel. If Morrisons earlier has anything to go by, I may be selling them on ebay before this!! (Children for sale anyone, must collect!!)

Then on the Monday of the first week - we will be going to the Peak District on our camping holiday (pray for the rain to keep off please!!). I'm so looking forward to it as haven't had a holiday as just us (without inlaws!) for a while (if ever actually!!). Anyway as obviously I'm not going to do much work between now and 4, Friday afternoon, I will be searching the 'net to find things to do.

So this is where you guys come in, do you have any ideas - places to go (free or otherwise), places I should definately not go to at all cost....

Of Windfalls and Wet Days

It sounds like a novel doesn't it... its not.

After the lovely subtropical weather we have had here recently- all it has done since the girls started their holidays is rain! They broke up on Friday which seems a week earlier than most people and all it has done since is rain. Gone went the sun and the shorts and the sandals and back came the waterproofs and wellies. The British Summer Time has begun!! As you know I'm off on holiday soon and I've got fingers crossed that it will at some point dry out because camping and rain is not going to be much fun!!!

Today has been my first day back in 'proper' work since the weekend as I had a conference on Monday. It wasn't in a far flung place just up the road but as Bel called it I was " a very clever mummy who talked about a paper" - she didn't quite understand why I did and even after I did explain she got confused!!

Anyway as its end of the month we are as usual skint - well we were until this happened:

We've had an unexpected windfall - money from a source that I'm unsure as to why - money which can make our holidays go with a bang!

But now, here comes the moral part - do I ring said source up and ask why (Neb said No), do I spend money and tell source that I've used it - their mistake they can't have it back - Is there a law to this - do I have to pay it back if they've paid it in?? or do I transfer it to another account until I know why its been sent. and not spend it.
As most of you guys know, money is tight and to spend it on spoiling the girls rotten, ensuring their holiday goes with a bang is what I would do but am a bit nervous about what happens if source has sent it to us by mistake!!

Let me know your thoughts quickly before Neb has spent it all......

Legs or head first

Yes the age old dilemma has reared its head in our house last night. Having met my godmother for lunch on my birthday she being the sweetheart that she is had bought the girls a bag of buttons and a bag of jelly babies.

So, we then had to teach Bel how to properly eat them.

Me, I'm obviously a nice person because I rip their heads off first but Neb is more of a legs man and rips their legs off so they can't escape.....

Bel, unfortunately (or luckily for us) decided she only liked the red ones!!!

Jelly baby anyone.....

Friday Flip Offs

Having gained new blogs to read is fun - but I think I may need to cull some as really my reader was so damn full yesterday. Anyway, one of the new blogs I now follow and read is Pumpkin and Piglet. This is the blog of Baby and Baking, except due to Operation Yummy Mummy the baking has had to be put to one side and done on the weekends.

Anyway on a Friday, she takes part in a meme (don't ask me how you say it - some say its like dream, I tend to say it like a lamb MEEEM!") and as its meant to relieve you of any stress pre weekend I thought I'd take part.
The creator of the meme says the following about it: "is my way of ridding myself of weekday angst and frustration before heading into the weekend. I virtually flip off whoever is on my last nerve. It’s very cathartic. The theory is that I don’t take anything out on my husband and kids, although the jury’s out on that.
Join in the fun! Don’t spend your weekend stewing over the little people and annoying situations that got to you this week! But please, if you link up, show me some love via text link or using the photo, yo."

Friday FlipOffs is bought to you by Kludgy Mom, the letter O and A, the colour blue and lellow!

1) Flip Off  weather - we had gorgeous warm nights and then after pitching the tent to air it we have had storms, rain and wind! It would be nice if sometime over the weekend, we could manage to get it down and packed pre going on holiday.

2) Flip Off Facebook Fairy - my work colleague who is stressing because she is too busy yet is on FB all bloody day. Get on with getting the new job that you are moaning about and leave me the flip aloneFli

3) Flip Off Headache -  look I had a few drinks on Wednesday for my birthday and I know that I was feeling bad on Thursday but really do not need to have this damn headache again!!

4) Flip Off Girls - Yes, the holidays have now started  and yes I do love you but please can we at least stay calm in the car on the way home for me. Neither me or your dad need you screaming on the top of your lungs - even if you are very happy. Please leave your poor mum alone and give her some peace before she tackles the housework!!

Anyway I'm off to link this up!

School's Out here today so hope to god that my kids behave.

Let's take a trip to fairy woods....

Take my hand, hold tight, close your eyes can you see it yet....

You have to be quiet, calm your breathing down and relax.. you can see it .. are the fairies there in their circle...let them take your hand and they'll sprinkle the sleepy dust on you. Can you feel it hitting your cheeks, sparkling in your hair...hush now darling.. sleep will be easier now....

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Bel used to suffer from horrendous night terrors. She used to sit bolt upright in her bed and scream, thrash, kick, slap and sometimes wet the bed. It was awful, a time when not even a mummy could calm her. I would sit with her - try not to wake her and wait for the moment to pass - moments that took hours to work their way out. It was not an easy time seeing my little girl so upset and not knowing why. Sometimes she'd wake up and stare through me and scream horrible things about hating us.

After reading a lot about it on the web, we realised that what she was experiencing was 'normal' and tried to figure a way through it. I tried talking to her about her day at school before bed but as mothers (and fathers) of all know that is like getting blood out of stone. She did some share somethings that had upset her about older boys that we managed to work out and for a while it stopped. Counting chickens before they are hatched is not a good idea though and they started again - so thinking of other calming methods I started fairy woods.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Fairy woods a place to calm you and let you sleep in peace - I would sit on the side of her bed and ask Bel to close her eyes and imagine it. I'd let her explain what she could see and ask if the fairies were out yet. When she would tell me that she could see them - I'd ask her what they were doing and she would always say dancing. I told her that if she went up to them she would be able to get sprinkled with fairy dust and would help her sleep all through the night. It worked and it still works but now fairy wood is a bit more complicated than when I first started it....

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

.... there is now a dragon (friendly), a castle with magical rooms - a library full of books, a kitchen which you can walk into and the food you imagine pop onto the table, a steam train (Bel is licensed to drive) that runs from Fairy Wood Station all the way through the Beldom, a pirate ship for swashbuckling fights, a troll for beating up and many other things.....

I love my Bel and her imagination and the fact that night terrors are now firmly in her past.

BNM

I have never.....

There is a game that we used to play as a drinking/dare game... I have never. It would always lead to some embarrassing moments and drunken escapades being owned up to and if you had done the thing then you would drink some alcohol.. My head hurts even  thinking of it.

There are many things I have never done and therefore will never need to drink for but hands up I admit there is one thing that I probably would be the only one who has never done it. So get your drinks (tea/wine/cider .. you decide) and here goes ... I have never been on a plane.

Image: Salvatore Vuono / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Yes, you did hear that right - the furthest I've been on holiday is to Southern Italy when I was 17 (school trip) and that was all buses and ferries. I had never been on a train until I went to uni.

See am officially a country bumpkin - especially noticed today whilst having coffee with work colleague who was trying to explain how she got her watch on the plane and as I looked at her in an odd way went:

"You've never been on a plane have you"......

Cake anyone....

Go on, grab a seat, put your feet up - coffee machine is making that funny wlob wlob noise and the tea is in the pot brewing....

Today, its my birthday and I'm getting old now - not as old as Bel thought I was when I asked her - she thinks I'm 100 and Neb's 70 - gee thanks!!
I'm actually 34.. and was born in the hot summer of 76 (I so feel sorry for my mother for that one!!)

Anyway grab some cake:
Today is also Bastille Day in France.. so Happy Bastille Day for everyone out there.
I used to go on many a french exchange to France when I was in school (oh so long ago now!!) and thought it was great that there was this big party with fireworks and frivolity's (I used to get fed lobster and steak!). Obviously its more to do with storming the Bastille than that but I didn't know that then.

Anwyay hope you've had enough cake, I thought I'd share some music with you from the years of my life!!.

Firstly number one the week I was born is:

Johnny Nash - Tears on my pillow

Then the year I was 10, it was Madonna - Papa Don't Preach

Then the year I was 20, it was Fugees - Killing me Softly:

Then the year I was 30, it was Lily Allen - Smile

Hope you all have a nice day - me I'm busy in work (cough, cough) but will surely have a drinky bink later on!!!

Snip, Snap, Snip...

Yes peeps, I have chopped it off!

No, I haven't done a Mrs Bobbit and chopped Neb's off although it is tempting - do you think if I did he'd tidy the house (but that is a bit extreme though!)

No, I have cut my hair - It was well due a cut as the last time I cut it was pre Car!!! Its not normally a priority of mine having my hair cut and I do tend do it only once every blue moon (or 2 years whichevers more!!).

So, off I went yesterday to the hairdressers. Now, since the last time I cut my hair, the hairdressers I'd normally go too has left town. So, after asking the girls in the office who they went too and picking the cheapest (one girl gets her hair cut for £60!! and every month as well!!!) . I then had a lie (just a white one) to the administrator where I work and got an hour off work (except I have a bad feeling it'll come out of my holiday!!).

I took the photo with me, that I normally use and surprise, surprise it doesn't look anything like it. I have had a lot off though and Neb got a bit assy  - how much off, what the fuck have you done. Bel loves it and Car says I look like a princess. I will try and take a photo soon and change my pic
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One more day to fill in the survey - let me know what you want me to do when I'm off on my camping trip!! Its over there somewhere and the results are quite close at the moment.....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PS Its my birthday today so look out for a cake post later on!!!

I'm not a glamorous granny...

Hello

How are you all - is it hot and sticky enough for you? Have you managed to find any breeze anywhere yet or is it fans on and cold beer all round!

We went down to the village next to ours carnival fun day yesterday. Its the village that Bel's school is in and we used to live there so its a fun day to go to. As every year, everything was free which is good for us!
There was:
  • free face painting: Bel became a butterfly and Car screamed and refused
  • free pony rides: Bel rode the biggest one and Car screamed and refused to ride blossom the pony!!
  • free bouncy castles : Bel bounced to her hearts content and Car screamed and refused.
Can you see the pattern of our afternoon yet!! We tried to get her to run a race (girls under 4) as she loves to run and it was in the village field but she clung on to my leg and screamed!!!

The community team (who organised the carnival) did manage to console her once when they gave her a free ice pop and us free beer (everyone gets one!!) but apart from that she winged.

She even moaned when I entered one of the competitions...there was three being judged all the same time:
Beautiful baby, glamorous gran and best knobbly knees. Can you guess which one I went for.....yes knobbly knees. Now my knees aren't that knobbly but as no one else entered I won by default - definitely worth the bottle of beer.

Anyway here are my winning knees (freckles and all!!)

A favour please

As you may have gathered we are going away camping soon.

We are hoping to go away here:

Callow Top Holiday Park

(depending on whether they have room) which is in the Peak District. Hopefully we will have wonderful weather and be able to do many fun free things (lots of walking then!) and some other things for the girls. I am so looking forward to it and for once its a holiday for me, Neb and the girls without his mum and dad being there!!

Anyway, while thinking of the holiday I panicked and thought my blog, I won't be able to blog. There is Wifi available in the cafe here but I can't see them letting me sit in my pyjamas blogging before Neb gets up! I can see me reader being very full when I get up and my brain about ready to explode with all the fun stuff you'll have missed out on!!
SO, I thought I'd ask your opinion. Over there, no there, right a bit .. I've designed a poll to see what you think of the idea. While I'm away would you like guest posters!
If you are all up for it and love the idea, and want to take part then leave details below. Otherwise, I will ask some of my favourite blogs myself and see if we get a reply. The newt new technology used in the making of the poll nearly stretched me but I'm thankful to blogger help!!

What not to do when home alone

Thursday night is pool night (no not mine, I'm mummy no social life,Neb's! - go figure how he gets to have a night out what I pay for and I don't but hey!)
Anyway, Thursday night (tonight) is when I get to catch up on my blog reader (if I haven't done all week!), blog, twitter and call friends.
I have been on Twitter briefly tonight but I've spent most of evening after Neb went out on phone!! I have a earache now and for some reason my nose has gone a bit blocked up!
I've been on the phone to :
  • G1 (Bel's godmother, my b/f from uni) and organised seeing her and her family at the end of our camping trip in August (it has been decided by me!). She rang me and after getting over the your on hands free as I'm doing some housework dilemma (really, WHY!) we spoke for about 40mins.
  • SuperLittleMen for 65mins - my phone bill - ouch - were we discussed many irrelevant subjects and her husbands (now dh - not dickhead!) amusing ability to be a completely Banana when she was on phone - impressions galore!
  • G2 (Bel's other godmother - one of my friends from school - where she bullied discussed  us going on smaller camping trip before bigger one to get used to tent. My idea closer than hers but will need to talk to Neb about it! I have literally been off the phone for 5 mins!!

I love them to bits but G2 is amazed that I still have a voice never mind only an ear ache!

I've also managed to drink half a bottle of cider (the small ones) but I think I've sweated most of it out as its so sticky in this darn house!

Night all!

Shoes for you and none for me....

Hi all,

Sorry for the rarity in blogging this week - it has been a bit manic in work but think we are now settling in to a calmer period.
Anyway, I hear you ask, stop moaning about busy times, what have you been doing?

Well, we have been a shoe shopping. Me, personally I hate shopping for shoes as I have ultra wide feet and all the lovely shoes like the Jimmy Choos of this world are not made for my feet. I guess I could describe my feet like wide flippers and if they were big maybe I should buy some clown ones because they would fit.

Anyway, it wasn't for me that we went, it was darling Car who unlike her mother has decided that any kind of shopping is fantastic. Luckily for us, Clarks has bought out a handy 6 step fitting guide to shoe fitting:

Luckily we have a Clarks in the town where I live, and though I haven't seen them use the Length thinygmebob, but they are very good. We still have both the girls first shoes pictures in albums!
Unfortunately for us much as I know that my daughters should be in Clarks shoes - this is not always possible due to money constraints!

So off we went to the other shoe shop in town and came back with a pair of sandals and a pair of trainers for Car. The trainers wouldn't have been my first choice but as soon as we walked in (well I did, she ran!) she saw them - can you guess whose on them .. go on.. guess ....yes we got these:

And they flash too!!

It was really helpful to look at the Clark's guide before going shoe shopping but for stage 6 - do you think it was ok to watch her run and then try and get her back (instead of the walking!!)

Before school starts again in September - we will be going to Clark's to buy their winter shoes but for now these will do!

Bedtime Stories 2

You'll know from the last Bedtime Stories post that I wrote that we had a problem with reading non sleepy books at bedtime. Well I think, eventually we have this cracked. But know we have to read the same book over and over again!!AAGH.
It all started with a Poppy Cat loves Rainbows book that we started reading her. This is the book she now has to have in bed with her!! Car now knows all the words to the book and depending on her level of tiredness will join in.

Poppy Cat Loves Rainbows

Now as this Poppy Cat book has been so favoured on off I went to look for more Poppy Cat books. So with the help of other people's reviews on Amazon I sent off for this:
Poppy Cat's Dream

This is a fantastic book and if you have a child who loves pop-ups, finding people (bear has gone missing and he can be found on most pages!) then this is the book for you. Unfortunately for us, this is going to be the book that we read more than once every night, it was read twice last night by me and then twice by Neb. I have even read it this morning.....

On another book note - Bel loves to read but she also loves us to read to her. As she is getting older and has a very active imagination (I will write a post on fairy woods soon!) we have started to read books to her that have less pictures but lots of jokes. Our current book is : Sir Gadabout goes to knight school

This is a very funny book and has jokes for adults as well as children in it. Sir Gadabout is a useless knight who doesn't know how to do knightly things apart from running away!! Having got the picture (off amazon) I noticed that it was also made into a tv show - will have to go and youtube it for Bel later!! Both Bel and myself and Neb love the book with many jokes making us stop reading and laugh our socks off.

Hope you get time to share your favourite books with us below. If not have a read of these ones.

I'm not there

Today, UK mummy (and daddy) bloggers are making history.

Today is the day of the blogging revolution - Cybermummy is on.

Its so much of a blogging revolution that you may all think that everyone is off to it. But I'm not (and I'm not the only one). If you check out Twitter today and search #notgoingtocybermummy there are quite a few of us.

At £100 a ticket it wasn't a cheap conference and that doesn't include any travelling costs/ eating /staying! If I had wanted to go from here it would have cost a total of £400 quid!! And taken forever!!

And that's if I wanted and could've gone - if your new here you may not know that the hubby, Neb, doesn't know I blog and only a small number (3) of my friends know I do. But really if he knew and if I could afford it would I go? I really don't know, have never been to any conference before ( even if I am talking at one in a couple of weeks time EEK!) .

Having asked a few people on twitter this morning many have said it is not their scene. Do we as mummy bloggers need to go to a conference on blogging to show us how to lead the way? Being a mummy blogger is revoultion enough for us isn't it not - (and no, I'm not tryin to diss the conference - you go for it girls!)

Anyway I'm off to put feet up and enjoy the virtual coffee /wine morning on Twitter! Sod the housework!!

I wanna cry

I have just found out that the break in London I was so looking forward to has had to be cancelled. We were all meant to be going down the first week of August to stay with Neb's family but after cryptic message on FB last night we are now not going due to their work committments having changed. We went down last year and had a fab time and I was so looking forward to going away!!
Neb rang earlier to break the bad news to me and said that they would be able to take us in October (half term, end of month, before payday -ain't gonna happen!!)
So, I suggested that we go camping, as dad has a tent for us - he didn't seemed overjoyed by that idea!
Then I mentioned that I was really looking forward Super Little Men (who I went to uni with if you hadn't guessed) and as Bel and Isaac are now writing letters to each other it would've been nice to have a catch up.
Neb suggested that we stay with his parents for a few days and meet SLM halfway between his parents and theirs for one of the days. Now I love SLM to bits, but do I really want to spend my summer holiday at his parents house!!

So, does anyone know of anywhere I can go for 4 nights camping on the cheap but close to cheap/free places to go? Or can I see London and stay on a tight budget? All help would be muchly appreciated.

The Alternative Boden Catalogue

I'm not a sheep honest but after seeing this on the lovely Sardine Tin blog, I had to join in.

The fantastically funny Dulwich Mum has started an alternative Boden catalogue - you know the things we really think when we look at the catalogue. Now I'm obviously not Boden enough as I don't get the catalogue but after having a quick look online I found this:

Boden catalogue page ( aah shit online somewhere)

Lola is wearing a low cut bluey top with clearly no tits and is smiling as she knows that noone can see that her hand is up Lily's skirt. Lily (right) is wearing a childs vest with playdo necklacke and is thinking that Lola needs a boob job.
Lola's favourite thing - Lily covered in chocolate
Lily's favourite thing - the photographer who has a bigger cock than Lola the sheboy!

As I don't read Boden catalogues - this may obviously be the wrong thing so please Dulwich Mum let me know.
